Blown-In Insulation

If you are living in Southeastern Wisconsin with preexisting insulation in your home, blown-in insulation is a budget friendly solution to increase your R-value and reduce energy consumption. R-value measures the capacity of a material or structure to resist heat flow.  The US Department of Energy recommends an R-value between R-49 and R-60 which can be achieved with adequate levels of blown-in insulation. In turn, your heating and cooling systems will run less frequently, saving you money on your monthly energy bills. Blown-in insulation can refer to a range of materials, including fiberglass, rock wool or cellulose. Contact one of our specialists today to find which material is best for you.

Determine Your Insulation Needs

Regardless of what season it is in Wisconsin, if your home is improperly insulated it could cause a host of negative side effects from ice damming, mold overgrowth and energy loss. You can certainly book online, call or text us to schedule a consultation. An insured specialist will give you an accurate and honest energy assessment. Otherwise, you can assess your current insulation by yourself with a ruler, flash light and some balance. Check out the video below on how to DIY your attic assessment

Tip: Protective gear for your eyes mouth and hands are recommended when measuring your insulation. Keep in mind that some older attics may contain vermiculite insulation. This flaky gray, pea-sized material may contain asbestos which is hazardous. Do not touch vermiculite or kick it up into the air.

Recommended Levels of Insulation

Based off your current insulation material and measurement, you can determine if you'll need further insulation. If you notice loose fibers, granules or batts in your attic (coloring may be white, yellow, pink or gray) you can assume the R-value per inch is between 2.5 - 3.7. For a rough assessment, multiply 3 x the height in inches of your insulation (using a ruler or tape measure) to determine your attic's current R-value. The US Department of Energy recommends that attics be insulated between R49 and R60. Because blown-in insulation starts to settle after 15 years, older homes may fail to meet this standard.

The results of inadequate insulation levels can be very costly in the long haul and make your home uncomfortable during the height seasons. High energy bills, ice damming, mold, and inconsistent ambient air temperatures are all a result of poor insulation. Get in touch with one of our specialists to determine how to bypass these issues and maximize the energy efficiency of your home for comfort and savings. Benefits of blown-in insulation include:

  • Affordability

  • Sound proofing

  • Increased R-Value

  • Sustainability

  • Can be installed into existing cavities
